Virginia > Charles scanned this map of the area and put a star showing the location of 27 Rue des Bluets. This is one picture you may want to look at in the large size.
Virginia > 27 Rue des Bluets, our Paris home away from home.
Virginia > The Rue des Bluets is a short, one-way street in the 11th arrondissement that runs between the Avenue de la République and the Boulevard de Ménilmontant.
There are two apartments available for rent -- one facing the street (the three tall windows on the left) and one with an outdoor patio that faces away from the street. The area is quiet at night except on weekends when there can be some spill over from the nightlife on the nearby, very trendy Rue Oberkampf. Well-insulated windowns insure that we never have a problem sleeping.
Virginia > Loading and unloading our luggage usually means blocking the street for a few minutes.
Virginia > I like the pretty grill work on the front door. This photo was taken before sunrise from outside. The inside lights are on a timer and turn themselves off automiatcally. Very efficient!
Virginia > These touch pads, known as digicodes in French, are a common form of security in Paris buildings. To gain access, you must punch in the right combination of numbers and letters. Always be sure you have the code before arrival along with the landlord's phone number in case of problems.
Virginia > This is the entry way at 27 Rue des Bluets. You can see the stairs straight ahead.
Virginia > Trash barrels for the building are at the bottom of the stairs. There are bins for glass, newspapers and regular refuse.
Virginia > The two rental apartments are up the staircase on the second floor (first floor in France), along with the apartment of the English-speaking neighbors. No, there is no elevator in the building so be sure not to overpack your bags!!
