Paris in Spring : Whether we have day after day of sun or rain and gray skies for weeks on end in the Spring, my eye seeks color and finds it everywhere. Sometimes it is subtle and sometimes it is amazingly vibrant. Is it any wonder that the beauty of Paris assaults the senses at any time of year and in all kinds of weather?

Atélier Guigue & Locca : The Atélier Guigue & Locca has been in the Viaduc des Arts since 1994. Muriel Locca and Jean-François Guigue were schooled in the decorative arts and both do painting restoration. Muriel specializes in the the restoration of painted furniture and Jean-François designs and builds sophisticated acoustic speaker systems.

Muriel was teaching a class to four art students during my April 2008 visit with fellow photographer, Bill Graham. Warm thanks to the students and to Muriel and Jean-François for allowing us to take photographs while they worked.

Atelier - Le Cadre d'Or : Le Cadre d'Or, the atélier of Jacques-Henri Varichon, has been part of the Viaduc des Arts since 1995. Here the skillful artisans create frames and bases designed to enhance the artwork, not compete with it.

These photographs were taken in April 2008 during a visit to the atélier with fellow photographer, Bill Graham. Warmest thanks to the artisans who allowed us to disrupt their day.

Atelier - Vertical : Vertical in the Viaduc des Arts is the atélier of Alban Lanore and Nanou Grimault. It features sculptures made from wood found on forest floors or unused cuts purchased from those who are permitted to cut the timber. Nature provides the shapes of these "botanic" sculptures and Alban and Nanou the finishing touches that turn them into art.

It was a great pleasure to visit with Alban and Nanou in April 2008 with fellow photographer Bill Graham. Their enthusiasm for their art and their appreciation for the beauty and sanctity of nature was inspiring.

Paris in Autumn : Although Paris flora does not offer the vibrant colors of a New England autumn, the low October sun gave a warm glow to the city and inspired me to take pictures incorporating fall colors.

Paris Plage 2005 : Being in Paris during Paris Plage 2005 was a thrill and I spent much of my limited spare time photographing along the quais of the right bank of the Seine where the city of Paris had set up a seemingly endless series of entertainments. This gallery, which is very much a work in progress, is my attempt to convey something of the feeling of this unique summer happening that is designed not for tourists but for Parisians of all ages who do not or cannot escape the city during the warmest days of summer. There are photos to add and photos to subtract before the gallery is finished and, as I work on completing it, I not only welcome but solicit your comments and suggestions for making it an effective and enjoyable photo essay. Thanks for looking.
